Spirax is the oldest wire binder in the UK. Established over 60 years ago, but always at the forefront of innovation.
1940s
Spirax is born. In the beginning all calendars and other publications are bound in metal spiral then shortly afterwards plastic spiral is used for the first time.
1950s
Wire-o binding of books is introduced.
1960s
Wire-o takes over from spiral as the most popular method of calendar binding.
1970s
Automatic collation replaces handwork as a means to assemble sheets.
1980s
Spirax develops the first eurohanger for calendars.
1990s
Plastic spiral gains popularity with over 100 colours now available.
Now in the 21st Century
Plastic spiral is now coiled on site. Metal spiral binding can now be finished with coilock. Thicker books can now be bound in wire-o - up to 30mm.
All this produced in our 25,000 sq foot, purpose built factory, which serves our customer base throughout the whole of the UK and Ireland.
